SUPERCAR: SSC Tuatara
Shelby Supercars ist fertig mit dem Nachfolger des SSC Ultimate Aero: Der Tuatara kommt mit maximal 1774 PS. Die errechneten 483 km/h Spitze muß er aber noch beweisen. Nur 100 Stück werden gebaut – für je 1,3 Milionen Dollar
Nach fast zehn Jahren Entwicklungszeit ist der SSC Tuatara nun serienreif: Das Hypercar von Shelby Supercars wurde jetzt in seiner letzten Ausprägung enthüllt. Aus dem einst angedachten Siebenliter-V8-Biturbo ist allerdings ganz trendig ein kleinerer 5,9-Liter-V8-Biturbo geworden, der jedoch statt der zuerst anvisierten 1350 PS nun 1774 PS mit passendem E85- Kraftstoff leistet.
Das Tuatara-Project wurde mit dem Codenamen „Exceed“ schon 2009 angestoßen, als „SSC North America“-Gründer und Chef Jerod Shelby einen Nachfolger für seinen SSC Ultimate Aero suchte. Der hatte die Messlatte hoch gelegt: Zwischen 2007 und 2010 galt der Sportler als schnellstes Serienauto weltweit.
Karosserie und Aerodynamik des Tuatara wurden gemeinsam mit dem Spezialisten und Designer Jason Castriota entwickelt. Das Ergebnis ist ein Drag-Koeffizient von unschlagbaren 0,279. Trotz allem wird auf einen fetten Heckspoiler verzichtet – kleine Winglets an den hinteren Kotflügeln sollen zum Stabilisieren reichen. Und wir sprechen hier von weit mehr als 400 km/h – rechnerisch dürften es mehr als 480 km/h sein… Unter der Carbonhaut des Tuatara steckt ein sehr steifes Carbonmonocoque. Selbst die Räder bestehen aus diesem leichten und starkem Werkstoff. Insgesamt soll das Auto nur 1247 Kilo wiegen, womit jede Pferdestärke für gerade mal 700 Gramm Gewicht zuständig ist. Für die Kraftübertragung sorgt ein sequenzielles Siebengang-Getriebe, das die Gänge in weniger als 100 Millisekunden einlegen soll. Das Auto ist auf 100 Stück limitiert. Dafür sind 1,3 Millionen Dollar doch ein Schnäppchen…
